Patient Information

Your consultation

Your first appointment will take between 1 hr to 1 ½ hrs, during which a thorough past medical history will be taken, followed by a clinical assessment (active and passive movements, and any required special neurological and orthopaedic tests) relevant to your present musculoskeletal complaint. For this assessment you may be asked to undress to your underwear. Gowns are provided for patient privacy, and chaperones are available to attend if required. If further investigations, such as ultrasound scan, X-ray, MRI, urine or blood tests are required, they can be ordered at this time. Referral to an orthopaedic surgeon, or other specialist, can also be discussed.

When a diagnosis has been made, this will be explained to you, and the proposed treatment options will be discussed with you. The best course of action will be taken based on your personal needs. Your consent to treatment will be requested throughout to ensure that you are comfortable at every stage of your treatment. After care and self-management advice will be given. We will ask your consent for us to write to your GP, or other health professional, outlining the diagnosis, and treatment received.
